Three Generations and eleven Decades of Cardoza's Wines
TITAN WINE COMPANY is the Flagship Wine of Cardoza Family Wines.
The Cardoza family has a rich and storied history in the beverage alcohol industry, spanning nearly 100 years and three generations.
During Prohibition from 1927 to 1933, our Patriarch Manuel (Manny) Cardoza operated two Speakeasies in the Historic port of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Although the sale of alcohol was banned at the time, there was no shortage of patrons at his secret establishments, including elected officials and constables on patrol. Because of relationships built with the Mayor and city council members, he secured one of the first wine licenses issued in Massachusetts. He opened the Union Wine Shop on Union Street in February 1934.
Napa Valley was still making sacramental wines at that time, but that would all change. A year later, he opened a small "Package" store in the seaside village of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, appealing to travelers heading along RT. 6 to Cape Cod from all points west.
In 1987, grandson Richard returned from Naples, Florida, where he had joined many of his restaurant owner friends and their patrons enjoying high-quality Napa Valley wines, some red, some white, and some pink. It was the beginning of Napa Valley's coming-out party, and the world was watching!
It was then Richard joined the family business with the plan of transitioning the small “package store” into a fine wine business. In 1989, he and his father expanded to an 8,000-square-foot facility on the same property and aptly named it CARDOZA’S Wine & Spirits.
Throughout the years that followed, the Cardoza Family introduced the SouthCoast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island wine drinkers to many, if not all, of the legendary Napa Valley wines being made from the early 80's to late 90's while creating relationships with the owners and winemakers of the vineyards.
By 2005, they had built a regional chain consisting of 4 stores, a winery direct distribution company, a wine and tapas bar, and a Beverage catering company, which all catered to high-end customers from Newport, RI to Cape Cod, and all points in between.
